Can I plug in my own Access Point or router?

To replace the IPacket-provided Access Point with your own, you will need to contact our support team to provide further information on how to facilitate this change. The process more complicated than would be with a traditional home internet setup, and requires additional programming. Using a personal router/Access Point will also diminish our ability to provide WiFi support, monitoring and management as we are not responsible for any personally-owned equipment.

If the IPacket Access Point in your unit has available network ports, you may find it easier to plug your router into it and then program your router to use AP mode. All home routers should have an AP mode. When in use, you'll want to plug your equipment in using one of the alternate ports, not the yellow or blue "Internet" port. These details should be included in the router's instructions.

If your residence has IPacket-provided WiFi service, replacing our equipment with a standard home router will cause the internet to stop working completely. Our network functions differently than the normal home WiFi setup with a traditional cable modem and router. If you still would like to use your own router/Access Point, please be aware that once your equipment is installed, IPacket will not be able to monitor your WiFi service or provide any troubleshooting assistance.

IPacket owns and manages the equipment that is currently installed in your unit or residence. As such, there is a fee to replace lost or stolen equipment, so if you should choose to install your own router/Access Point, please contact IPacket so we can retrieve our equipment.
